Duty at Distance

The court is its own world. 

It has its own intricate workings, its own rules. Those rules are often summarized as Duty. Oftentimes, Duty means holding those above and below at a distance. Lords and servants may often interact, even work together actively, but being candid with one another is uncouth. Any bonds are formed in the layers underneath what is actually spoken. Even then, always, Duty must come first. One cannot let one’s feelings get in the way.
